For years, I have made the mistake of thinking that my business was my brand and I failed miserably. Lucky for you, you don’t have to. I have done hundreds of logos and websites in my career and 98% of those businesses have failed. Why? Because most people think aesthetics run businesses. Because most entrepreneurs are simply running a business and not a brand, their main focus is in the product. And because so many other businesses like theirs are mostly focused on the product, everyone is screaming BUY! BUY! BUY! In turn all of them compete on price and not value. All of them turn to cost based pricing and not value based pricing.
This explains why so many entrepreneurs have fallen prey and lost their money in the many ‘5 minute hacks’ crazily advertised on social media only to realize later that they yield no fruit. Most entrepreneurs think that the product they have is the best for their clients. They think that because what they have is good, the client will automatically buy it.
Most people think that branding is having that good logo, a beautiful website, a well-branded office space and employees with branded attire. Well, that’s not branding. We call that identity branding and that doesn’t get you clients.
Visuals like your logos, website, colors and even your name contribute to just 20% of your branding. Branding is like building a house where you start with the foundation first. When the foundation is weak, the house doesn’t stand.
